Housing Information
Residential, as always, is optional. Students may choose instead to commute or stay with a host family. For more information about host homes contact the State Coordinator.
We have a new Residential location this year. Student cost for 3-nights at the camp is $105 / 4-nights at the camp is $140.
Residential students need to stop by Camp Good News in Livermore Falls, ME to drop off their luggage BEFORE coming to the Capitol. (Due to security precautions, we cannot bring luggage into the Capitol.) Room assignments at Camp Good News will be posted, so students should drop their belongings off in their assigned room. Please drop off luggage before 11:00 a.m. This will allow you plenty of time to get lunch prior to arriving at class at 12:45 p.m. on Monday. The capitol cafeteria offers many reasonably priced lunch options. Parents will need to arrange to pick up their students luggage at the Camp after graduation on Thursday afternoon, or sometime Friday; whichever is applicable. Free parking in the parking garage on Sewall street is recommended.
Lunch each class day is the responsibility of the student. Breakfast and supper at camp are included in the residential fee.
Students will be transported by van back and forth from the capitol Monday evening through Thursday morning. Public Speaking students will additionally be transported Thursday evening and Friday morning.
Dress Code
Over the years, we've found that most of our students adhere very well to our dress code, which until now has been fairly simply stated. However, we do have a consistent and small number of students and families who do not find the standards very well stated or easy to follow. We've made this standard a little more detailed, not because we believe that this is the way Christians should always dress, or because it is the way we like to dress. Some call our standards legalistic, but that by no means reflects the reasons we require them. We adopt these standards and ask that you follow them for this one week out of the year for three reasons:
1. Modesty: To be above reproach, since clothing can be a temptation for some and a reason to judge for others,
2. Protection: To ensure that these students are not placed in compromising situations with other students and Capitol staff during the class, and
3. Professionalism: To present the most professional image of ourselves in the highly respected halls of government.
See the below link for the complete dress code for the capitol and camp.
