Julia Nelson grew up in northern Virginia, but she and her husband Dean now reside in Montgomery Village, Maryland. Their three adult children Michaela, Amani, and Brandon all participated in multiple TeenPact events.
Julia loves TeenPact’s track record of cultivating civic responsibility and enthusiasm for good citizenry in its young people. Each of her children benefited from TeenPact in different ways, from improving their public speaking and developing leadership skills, to gaining hands-on experience with local government and meeting lifelong friends.
Since retiring from homeschooling, Julia continues to serve alongside her husband Dean, working with African American churches and leaders across the country, empowering them with resources to better serve their congregations and communities. She loves reading, hiking, visiting museums, and jogging very, very slowly.
