Stick With It

As with any event, it’s easy to go through the motions at National Convention. You can become so emotionally invested in what you’re experiencing that you often get what some might call a “spiritual high.” I find myself falling into this so often. I find that it is easy to live out God’s Word at TeenPact, but when I get home, it’s a different story.

At National Convention, you’re in a safe place, a place filled with God and His people, but at home, Satan’s attacks seem to be stronger, because I don’t have the support group of children of God. I shared a message at National Convention. Stick With It: a call to daily submerge ourselves in God’s Word. To be doers and not just hearers of the Word. It was easy for me to share this, holding up a succulent and making it sound like a simple thing to do.

As I came home from the event, the enemy came back stronger than ever, whispering into my ear, telling me what he knew would veer me off the straight and narrow path. That’s what he’s best at, isn’t it? He finds, exposes, and targets our weaknesses. Once he begins to ensnare us, it’s difficult to get away, and we start a downward spiral, slipping into his trap. Once in his trap, we think we’ve failed, because Satan has convinced us that we were told to stand firm on our own. But the funny thing about Scripture is that God gives us commands that we can’t carry out… that is, in our own strength.

To stick with it – to grow deeply rooted – we cannot depend on ourselves. As human beings, we are broken, sinful, and so imperfect, yet somehow we still believe that we can rely on ourselves. When we lean on our own strength, we quickly (so quickly) fall into the enemy’s trap. In this season of learning what it truly means to stick with it, God has taught me to stick with Him, not myself and my own feelings or thoughts.

“For the human heart is wicked and deceitful above all else, who can know it?” – Jeremiah 17:9

Sticking with it means relying on Him wholly and finding rest in Him, for when we are faithless, He remains faithful. To stick with it doesn’t mean to be perfect – it means to trust the One who is perfect. It means to hold on to Him to trust that He will hold us. He’s brought us this far, why would He leave us now?
