God’s Tapestry

This post was written by TeenPact Student Body Senator Maggie Megelsh of Tennessee.

I recently saw a woman making a tapestry. She worked from the back of the tapestry, weaving in a new piece of colored thread every few minutes. The back of the tapestry was a tangled mess of thread, tied off in different parts, and sticking out all over the place. It looked like nothing in particular, and I had zero idea what the image was supposed to be.

After watching her for a few minutes, I finally went up and asked her what the image was supposed to be. She smiled up at me and told me to look on the opposite side from where she was sitting. I walked around the other side and my mouth dropped open. On the front side of the tapestry was a beautiful image of a church in a field. The detail in the work amazed me.

I asked myself, “How could she work from the back of the tapestry, looking tangled and messy, and still turn it into the beautifully detailed image on the front?”

After thinking about that question for some time, I realized that it applied to my life and probably to yours as well. You may be going through a hard time right now. Life could seem messy, complicated, tangled up and unclear — nowhere near perfect. Just like the back of the tapestry.

Don’t lose hope. Don’t doubt Him. God WILL work and IS working with the tangled-up mess in your life. James 1:6 says, “YOU must believe and not DOUBT, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.”

When you start to doubt Christ, life starts to get more complicated and tangled up, but if you trust that Christ is making a beautiful tapestry from whatever kind of mess is in your life, you will find yourself worrying less about how to fix the mess and wondering more about what God is going to create from the mess.

Cast your struggles on God. Go to Him first with every doubt, concern, and thought. Have patience in whatever trial you are going through. Your life may seem tangled and tied up in knots, but God will show you the work of art that He has created through your life.

God does everything for a purpose, for our good and His glory. Take comfort in the fact that God will use you and whatever story He is writing for you. My challenge to you is to look at the tapestry God is making of your life from His perspective, above the tangled mess.

What is the beautiful image He is weaving for your life, and how can you use that to help others?
